Entertainment for the Braindead - "Postcard #1: Songs for the Apocalypse" (self released)

"In the last few years I have travelled more than ever before in my life. Physically, in terms of seeing foreign countries, walking through wastelands, kissing new friends goodbye in distant airports, as well as mentally, just gathering new experiences and insights.. And sometimes I managed to record those journeys, let some of those moments curdle into sound and song. Those acoustic artefacts of different points in time and space now lie on my desk like postcards that I bought and lettered yet never sent. Now if I were to travel back in time to those points that were significant, where would I end up? What's written on those postcards that I'd find now that I forgot about? I'm not quite sure, but either way it's time to go and send them, one by one, until we have a collection that traces the steps on this journey. The trip starts on an island in the Baltic, summer 2010, will continue to spring in Turkey, move back home from there.. and end in Berlin as we move from past to present tense. It will contain songs about apocalypse played on water bottles and resonating flintstones, the very first attempts to play a piano, explorations of vocal music, discoveries of new instruments, songs about yearning for departure and songs about return. You will see, as each month from now until the end of the year, you will receive a bunch of mixed and mastered memories from me." (Entertainment for the Braindead)

Built From Sticks - "Half Steps" (Duskdarter 001)

"Recorded in early 2012, Half Steps is the follow up to Built From Stick's quietly well received I'm Not Finished Yetrelease. His fourth album sees the artist further explore both his fascination with intricate instrumental music and his love of slowcore. Opening with delicate guitar instrumentals and gradually moving into more traditional folk territory, the album continues to guide the listener into new and unexpected places. The title track, a soft guitar piece featuring accompanying trumpet from ghost notes bandmate Luke McCallum, is followed by a waltz driven piano piece with Jamie's unique vocal stylings. Throughout the album, guitar and piano are occasionally accompanied by drums (by Cam Smith), violin (by Jamie himself) and any other instrument he can get his hands on. This variation leaves every track it's own uniqueness."

Welcome Duskdarter!

Muhr - "Hantises" (Camomille 018)

"Vincent Fugère’s last album, Dream Dictionary ( released on Les Enregistrements Variables, which is now on this very site ), dwelled in the grime of nightmares with ghostly pianos, noise and lamented guitars. This time Muhr goes back to his roots, taking in some of the aspects from his The Kodama Institute ep as well as his older, more beaty work to release ” Hantises “.
While some tracks are heavy, with trip-hop beats crumbling under the pressure of the weighty atmospheres, some others rely on space and sparseness. On hantise, you enter the physical manifestation of the terrain thread in Dream Dictionary; as terror and gloom slowly creep on the horizon, you are forced to look inside and find the calm and light-heartedness to face it."

Art Sonic - "Roadside sketches" (Acustronica 029/No Source 057)

"A 3-week long road trip to the American Southwest (Toronto, Canada to Colorado, Utah and New Mexico USA). Good thing I managed to take my old beat-up acoustic guitar - even though there was little spaced for it in our tightly packed truck. Big prairie skies, Rocky Mountain panoramas, desert vistas, ghost towns and ancient Anasazi ruins, all inspired me to pick up the guitar and attempt to translate sights into notes. Little 'roadside sketches'... My trusty little field recorder allowed me to actually capture some of the nature sounds which later, back home in my studio, got incorporated into some of the tracks. Hopefully these short musical pieces will evoke the feelings and re-create the sights I had in front of me."
