Scopro solo ora, a due mesi dall'uscita e grazie al mio collega blogger "Canili d'Adda", questo ottimo album funk firmato Dokkerman and the Turkeying Fellaz,  rilasciato dalla netlabel ungherese Budabeats. Loro si auto-definiscono una deep-funk-revival band, ed in effetti nel loro sound non ci sono grandi novità, ma per il sottoscritto, grande appassionato del genere, ascoltare questo album è una goduria assoluta. I nomi che mi si illuminano davanti agli occhi sono molti, da James Brown a Kool & the Gang (tra i più famosi). Ma anche musicisti di generazioni più recenti, come James Taylor Quartet o Medeski, Martin & Wood. Dokkerman and the Turkeying Fellaz riescono comunque ad ottenere un proprio sound, grezzo e sudato, molto live-pub. Viene il desiderio di prendere il primo aereo low-cost e volare in Ungheria ad assistere ad una loro performance. Batterie grasse, wah-wah guitars, organi, fiati e key-acid-sounds...questo è sporco funk, tra odori di sudore e corpi che si strofinano appiccicandosi l'uno all'altro in afose serate estive. 60? 70? 80? 90? No...2012. Il funk è ancora vivo.

Longman - "Split Personality" (Picpack 140)

A volte le netlabel sono anche questo. Un'ottima release di sano ed energico funk con spruzzatine jazzy senza uno stralcio di informazione o presentazione. La band si chiama Longman. 4 file mp3. Fine. Punto. Nè Picpack nè Mr.Google sanno offrirmi qualcosa di più durante le mie ricerche. Ok. Mi rassegno. Probabilmente Longman è una band che preferisce l'anonimato. Fatto sta che la musica che esce da questo "Split Personality" è decisamente valida. Efficaci giri di basso suonati con convinzione, drum-pattern che rimandano al mitico Clyde Stubblefield, batterista di James Brown degli anni d'oro del funk. Groove effervescenti e forse un po' datati con tanto di godibili assoli di sax e flauti. Farsi avvolgere da questo sound sulla pelle sudata di luglio è estremamente piacevole e tonificante.
